Santa Croce church and museum

The church of Santa Croce is one of the largest Franciscan churches of Italy . Built in 1442 by the architect Arnolfo Cambi, maintains the style of a Basilica with a nave and two side aisles. In the inside there are masterpieces made by several artists, not to mention the Pazzi Chapel, planned by Brunelleschi and completed by Giuliano da Maiano and Michelozzo. We can admire, between the many works present, the Giotto's fresco of the Peruzzi and Bardi chapels, with his famous "History of S. Francesco", the Donatello's "Wooden Crucifer" and his relief of the "Annunciazione". Finally, in the sacristy there are the mortal remains of illustrious personages and artists such as L.B. Alberti, Michelangelo (work by Vasari), Dante, Alfieri (by Canova), Rossini, Foscolo, Machiavelli, and Galileo. In all the basilica and the contiguous museum you can breathe a mystical air and the importance that this place has had in the Florentine history, as fulcrum of the religious and social activities that joined people in the large square for the varied ancient events, among them the important historical Florentine football.
